Martin Ballmann  President of the Chess Week's organizing committee and of the Schachverband Winterthur
The Schachverband Winterthur is going to organize the Winterthur Chess Week for the third time this year. Beside the traditional open, the youth open and the two blitz tournaments, as a special attraction the SMM final (swiss team championships) will be held during the first weekend of the tournament.

Organizing an event of such size requires a huge amount of efforts. Therefore I want to thank all sponsors, donators and advertisers, who once more laid the foundation for the Winterthur Chess Week with their financial support. Furthermore I want to express my gratitude to all those helpers, who built up the infrastructure necessary for such a tournament by sacrificing large parts of their free time.

For the following nine days I wish you to experience a lot of success -- both socially and in chess. Now it's up to you!
